A New Blog is Born

Ecclesiastes 3:1  to everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven

About a year ago, Anne had requested that I begin to write a blog.  I contemplated that for about 1/1000 of a second and replied “nope”.  If you look at my online presence, you’d understand why. Do I have a Facebook page?  Check. Do I post on Facebook, nope. Do I get on Facebook, nope. Do I get on Instagram, nope.  SnapChat, nope. Twitter, nope. Pinterest, nope. So, why on earth would I want to write a blog?

In my years of practicing optometry I have answered many of the same eye related questions on a daily basis.  One of the main core values when I started this office was to have the most educated patients in eye care. Patients can sometimes be left to fend for themselves when they are given a diagnosis in the exam room.  Interestingly, if you look up the word diagnosis you’ll see it literally means “to know thoroughly”. Sadly, each patient doesn’t leave the office thoroughly understanding the implications of their disease, even in my office.  So to help with this, the blog is born. Each week I’ll try to discuss common topics I cover in the office.

I have tried to make the patients time with me as enjoyable as possible (who doesn’t want to sit in a waiting room, have their eye pressure tested, stinging drops put in their eyes, and glaring lights)?  Well, probably most people. So I have always tried to interact with my patients and get to know a little of what they do and who they are, since Lifestyle choices come into play when determining glasses prescriptions.  Bedsides, I love hearing about trips people take and where they recommend to visit. Who knows, I may end up there some day! Because of this, and probably because I’m the only one that would get excited reading about the latest topics on glaucoma, I’ve decided to include in this blog things that interest me.  So in the coming weeks, you are going to be just as likely to read about the history of video games and computers, financial topics related to Dave Ramsey, and any other topics that may catch my fancy. Anne and Mary may also chime in at times to round out the information. I hope this will be enjoyable for some and I won’t just be typing to myself.  Now to get back to my m&m’s. Should I eat the red one or the blue one? I think I’ll eat the red.

  1. Your office was the best experiences in any doctors office I have ever had. No wait. Lots of knowledgeable associates who each did their job efficiently, and the whole experience happened blip, blip, blip. I have now got the proper glasses for long distance I needed after I had some bad ones from some other doctor 10 years before. Excellent experience and excellent staff.

    1. Michele. I really appreciate your comment and your online reviews. Knowledge based care is a key component of our core values and we make every attempt to provide our doctors and employees with opportunities to learn. In fact, I’m proud to say that we have the most employees with advanced training in any optometric office in Arkansas. It warms my heart that you noticed and commented on this and I hope we continue to provide the excellent care you recently received.

    1. Hi Barbara. I didn’t know how many people this would reach, but I’m glad that you found your way here. I hope you find this material informative or enjoyable. If you have anything you’d like me to write about, let me know.
